Huawei Upgrades Vodafone's Greek Network

­Vodafone Greece has announced the launch of a HSPA+ upgrade to its network, offering a theoretical peak download rate of 28.8Mbps and upload rate of up to 5.8Mbps. According to independent trials conducted in active network conditions, the maximum peak download speeds recorded at end-user application level are in the range of 22 Mbps. Typical user speeds will vary based on local network conditions.  more

Industry predicts 21 Mbps to be next mobile broadband baseline

Mobile broadband is continuing to grow at a fast pace due to the ever increasing introduction of new technologies, new networks, new devices and competitive innovation in the market. In July, the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) announced that 7.2 Mbps had become the new baseline for mobile broadband globally, since at that time half of the HSPA networks in commercial service globally were capable of supporting a peak downlink data speed of 7.2 Mbps or higher, supported by almost 600 user devices capable of 7.2 Mbps or higher which had been launched in the market. Some HSPA systems support a peak downlink data speed up to 14.4 Mbps.  more

Singapore Network Offering 28Mbps Mobile Download Speeds

Huawei to Support 56Mb/s Mobile Data Download Speeds in 2010

­China's Huawei has announced its plans to launch a 56Mb/s HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access Plus) commercial solution in 2010. The 56Mb/s HSPA+ solution, featuring multi-carrier and mimo (multiple-input-multiple-output) technologies, was successfully demonstrated in Beijing this week at P&T/Wireless & Networks Comm China 2009.  more

GSA confirms 7.2 Mbps as new baseline for HSPA

Telecom Italia Launches 28Mbps Mobile Download Service

Telecom Italia has launched what it says is the first city-wide mobile broadband service offering peak speeds of 28 Mbps/s in download and 5.8 Mbps/s in upload. The service has launched in Milan, Italy and will be available in Rome from October. The upgrade was provided by Ericsson.  more

3G Americas Publishes Report on Smart Antennas

The trade association, 3G Americas has announced the publication of an educational report on the topic of smart antenna systems - also known as multiple-input multiple-output (mimo) technology. Smart antenna, or mimo, technology is commonly defined as, the use of two or more unique radio signals, in the same radio channel, where each signal carries different digital information, or two or more radio signals that use beam forming, receive combining and spatial multiplexing (SM). Relative to a traditional 1x1 antenna system, a 2x2 mimo system is expected to deliver significant cell throughput gain.  more

Vodafone Spain Tests 20Mbps Mobile Download Speeds

Vodafone Portugal Tests Mobile Downloads at 16 Mbps

Vodafone Portugal this morning initiated in Lisbon the first data session using the new HSPA+ 64QAM technology which makes it possible to use Mobile Broadband at a theoretical maximum download speed of 21.6 Mbps.  more

Vodafone Tests 16Mbps Mobile Data Download Speeds

Vodafone Spain says that it has successfully trialled an evolution of mobile broadband technology achieving actual peak data download rates of up to 16 Mbps. The high speed data connection was achieved during field trials of HSPA+ 64QAM technology on the Spainish network.  more
