Huawei Wins Italian WiMAX Contract
Huawei says that Italy's Retelit has awarded it a contract to deploy a WiMAX 802.16e network covering north and central parts of Italy where they own a BWA 3.5 Ghz frequency licence. Under this agreement, Huawei will provide an end-to-end WiMAX 802.16e mobile solution including Base Station, Access Service Network (ASN) Gateway, Hybrid TDM-IP microwave equipment and Network Management Systems. more

STMicroelectronics Offers Turnkey Solution for Mobile WiMAX Base Stations
Shortly after the IEEE ratified the new 'mobile WiMAX' standard (802.16e), STMicroelectronics has announced its turnkey solution for 802.16e base-station modems. WiMAX/IEEE 802.16 (Worldwide Interoperability for microwave Access) is a global standard-based technology for broadband wireless access. Ratified last month, the new 'mobile' 802.16e standard ushers in a seamless, nomadic phase of WiMAX, where base stations can communicate with moving devices, allowing users to move around and maintain their broadband connection. more

Motorola and Intel Jointly Promote WiMAX
Motorola and Intel have announced plans to collaboratively foster greater industry momentum for WiMAX and to advance the use of mobile WiMAX technology, based on the proposed IEEE 802.16e standard, for both fixed and wireless broadband applications. Intel and Motorola plan to collaborate on specification efforts within the WiMAX Forum in an effort to ensure that network and device interoperability issues are addressed adequately. more
