A national survey of American white collar workers found that while technology is widely embraced among working professionals, significant gaps exist among generations regarding its use and application in the workplace. The survey - commissioned by LexisNexis examined the impact of technology in the workplace. It compared technology and software usage among generations of working professionals, including Boomers (ages 44-60), Generation X (ages 29-43) and Generation Y (ages 28 and younger).  more

Social Networking Usurping Mobile Messaging as Communications Tool

Openwave Systems has published a report highlighting key mobile internet usage trends in North America, based on findings derived from its Mobile Analytics product. Strong themes that Mobile Analytics uncovered included upticks in social networking site usage suggestive of a new preferred method of communication with the potential to unseat traditional forms of messaging such as email for a particular segment of subscribers; an analysis of mobile advertising click-through rates (CTR) that showed clear advantages of targeted promotions; and the growing trend in accessing mobile classifieds via the mobile device.  more

Smart Phones Ring in Healthy Growth in 2009 Despite Mobile Meltdown

Although the outlook for the overall mobile handset market continues to dim, smart phones remain a bright spot with global unit growth as high as 11.1 percent in 2009, iSuppli is predicting. iSuppli's optimistic forecast for global smart phone unit shipments calls for 192.3 million units in 2009, up 11.1 percent from 173.6 million in 2008. A more pessimistic outlook calls for growth of only 6 percent this year, reaching 183.9 million units.  more

Economic issues are set to drive growth in unified communications

A new report by market analyst Datamonitor discusses the key trends in the unified communications market in 2008. It reveals that although uptake of such solutions has been relatively slow, environmental, social and economic factors will help drive growth going forwards. Whilst concerns over green IT, employee productivity and the economy may inhibit investments in some emerging technologies, Datamonitor believes that these issues will make unified communications a compelling business proposition for enterprises.  more
