Malaysian WiMAX Operators Fined for Missing Coverage Requirements

Malaysia's telecoms regulator has fined three of the country's four WiMAX license holders for missing their network rollout targets. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is reported to have issued the fines last week, reported The Star newspaper. All three operators are appealing their fines.  more

Number Portability to Launch in Malaysia Next Month

Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is due to be launched in Malaysia' Kuala Lumpur from next month, announced the Energy, Water and Communications Minister, Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor. It is intended that the facility will then go nationwide from October. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) originally announced plans for MNP last March.  more

Telcordia Wins Malaysian Mobile Number Portability Management Contract

With mobile number portability in Malaysia just months away, Telcordia says that it has won a contract to provide a MNP clearing house for the operators. In March, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced that a consortium comprising Talian Gerak Alih, Unified Communications and Telcordia was selected to build, operate and manage the Mobile Number Portability Clearinghouse in Malaysia.  more

No Delay to PrePay Registration Deadline

Later this year, Malaysia will start to block any PrePay mobile phone which has not had its ownership registered with the phone networks. Malaysia's telecoms regulator, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has now reiterated its stand that there will be no extension deadline for the registration of all prepaid subscribers. All prepaid subscribers who have failed to meet the deadline of 15 December 2006 will have their lines suspended for a period of 14 days. more
