Nigerian Operators Blocked from Buying NITEL Mobile Assets

­The Nigerian government has decided that the country's GSM network operators will not be allowed to buy the mobile assets of state-owned NITEL when it is eventually privatised. Bulgarian Operator Launches HSPA+ Upgrade

­Bulgaria's m-tel says that it has launched a HSPA+ (HSPA Evolution) upgrade to its network, offering peak mobile data download rates of up to 21Mbps. This is the latest step in the m-tel's UMTS network development, which is in response to the constantly increasing interest and mobile Internet consumption by the company's subscribers. For the last twelve months the operator has registered 300% growth of this service's subscribers.  more

Mobile Advertising launched in Bulgaria by M-Tel and Out There Media

Bulgarian mobile network operator, m-tel has signed a deal with Out There Media to offer mobile advertising services on its Vodafone Live branded mobile internet portal. The m-tel Mobile Advertising service is based on Mobucks - the mobile advertising marketplace designed and operated by Out There Media.  more

Almost No Interest in Number Portability in Bulgaria

Bulgaria's m-tel has announced that only 266 of its customers have taken advantage of the mobile number portability (MNP) service to switch to another network operator. The country launched MNP one month ago. The company also said that just 418 people have ported the numbers into the m-tel network.  more

Motorola Wins Nigerian GSM Contract

Motorola has signed a turnkey US$75 million GSM network expansion contract with Nigeria m-tel. The scope of the expansion project covers installation, commissioning and the upgrading of sites in the cities of Benin, Ikorodu and Yola. more

3G Coverage Expanded Along the Black Sea

Bulgaria's Mobiltel says that it extended its 3G services at the Southern Black Sea over the weekend. By the end of this week, the UMTS/HSDPA network of the operator will have coverage in Varna and the resorts along the Northern Black Sea. For a month already the customers of the company have been benefiting from the 3G services in Burgas and Albena resort. more

EDGE Coverage Expanded in Bulgaria

Bulgaria's m-tel says that it has increased the coverage of its EDGE network to 9 new cities. Starting from the end of December 2005, customers living in Kardzhali, Samokov, the Borovetz resort, Sandanski, Dimitrovgrad, Dupnitsa, Bankia, Radomir and Kiustendil are able to surf the Internet through their mobile phones with speeds up to three times faster than GPRS connection. more

GSM Operator Gets Strong Approval With TV Adverts

Less than a month after the start of its commercial campaign, television adverts from Bulgaria's vivatel have rated as among the top two most memorable and the brand was voted 'most liked' in the results of the Alpha Research national survey from November 2005 are quoted by "Media World" monthly magazine in its first issue for year 2006. The survey shows that in November most respondents had a liking for vivatel's commercials. In its first month of operation Vivatel rated more highly than all other telecoms brands including m-tel and Globul.
