Ericsson Rumoured to have Won $2 Billion Deal from Sprint Nextel
Ericsson is reported to have won a huge US$2 billion service contract from US operator, Sprint Nextel. Citing sources, the business news magazine, Affarsvarlden said the contract is said to be a surprise considering that Ericsson no long supports the CDMA technology used by Sprint Nextel. The complex integration with the Motorola supplied iDEN network can only add to the headaches, although any deal could lead to speculation that Motorola might try to offload their entire iDEN platform to Ericsson. more

Clearwire Aims for 31 Million WiMAX Subscribers by 2017
US WiMAX operator, Clearwire - which has been formed from the merger of the Clearwire and Sprint Nextel divisions expects to have some 1.3 million subscribers by the end of 2009 and 4.6 million by the end of 2010. Global W-CDMA base doubles as CDMA decline gathers pace
The dominance of the GSM family of technologies continued to increase in the year ended 30th September 2007 as a 25.9% increase in the number of 2G GSM customers was boosted by a 102.1% increase in the W-CDMA base. Overall the increase amounted to 28.8%, exceeding the global total of 24.2% and taking the proportion of the global customer base accounted for by the two technologies to 86.0% from 82.9% a year earlier. more
