Nokia Siemens Networks and LG achieve record LTE data speeds
Nokia Siemens Networks and LG Electronics say that they have achieved an lte downlink data transfer rate of 100 Mbps, the maximum speed for a Class 3 lte terminal. In lte terminology, user equipment is categorized into classes based on its potential uplink and downlink data rates. Class 3 terminals are expected to be the first widely used commercial lte terminals when they are launched later in 2010. This data call, operating a Class 3 terminal at its 100Mbps limit, demonstrates significant progress towards commercial lte. more

3G Americas Publishes Report on Smart Antennas
The trade association, 3G Americas has announced the publication of an educational report on the topic of smart antenna systems - also known as multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology. Smart antenna, or MIMO, technology is commonly defined as, the use of two or more unique radio signals, in the same radio channel, where each signal carries different digital information, or two or more radio signals that use beam forming, receive combining and spatial multiplexing (SM). Relative to a traditional 1x1 antenna system, a 2x2 MIMO system is expected to deliver significant cell throughput gain. more
