LTE Services in the US Will Generate More than $11 Billion in 2015

When it comes to mobile network infrastructure discussions, lte is the name on everyone's lips. Yet the very meaning of the acronym - "Long-Term Evolution" - is a hint that it isn't going to happen overnight. lte's deployment as the mainstay 4G technology will take place gradually, and won't even begin to gather real steam until 2013. Nonetheless, lte is forecast by ABI Research to generate more than $11 billion in service revenue in the United States in 2015, with nearly a further $650 million to come from Western Europe.  more

Alcatel-Lucent Testing Rural LTE 800Mhz Services in Wales

Alcatel-Lucent and Arqiva have announce trials of a rural lte deployment in the Preseli Mountains, West Wales, UK. The trial aims to demonstrate the economic and technical viability of a neutral-host wireless network as a route to extending broadband Internet services to areas with no broadband coverage ('notspots') and those with speeds lower than 2Mbits/s throughout the UK, estimated at 10% of UK households.  more

CSL and ZTE Launch World's First Commercial Grade LTE/DC-HSPA+ Network

China's ZTE says that it has deployed the world's first lte/DC-HSPA+ network, for Hong Kong based mobile network, CSL. Since the launch of the Next G network in early 2009, data traffic has increased by more than 65 times, and now comprises more than 80 percent of CSL's total network traffic: rapid growth that will continue, with CSL projecting that traffic in Hong Kong will continue to more than double every year.  more

UK mobile broadband network upgrade to LTE not economically viable until 2015

It is not economically viable to upgrade current UK mobile broadband networks to address traffic demands and improve user experience until 2015, according to the latest research from Informa Telecoms & Media. NEC Participates in LTE Trial with KDDI

NEC announced today its participation in KDDI's lte field trials, which is scheduled for commercial operation from 2012. This trial started in October 2010 from an urban area featuring high population density, a wide range of buildings and using a 1.5GHz band, the same band used in commercial services.  more
