3G Network Used to Backhaul CCTV to Control Centre

london's public transport authority, TfL has launched a security camera trial on some of its buses which will transmit live images back to a central control centre. The network is being provided by 21st Century CCTV and will rely on a 3G network for the backhaul from the buses to the control centre.  more

Australian Bomb Detonated by Mobile Phone Claim

It has been alleged that a home made bomb which killed an Australian scientist, Dr Lionel Lowe earlier this year was triggered by a mobile phone command. In a court hearing, it was alleged that fitter machinist Ashley Wright, 26 had constructed the bomb - although a motive has not been provided.  more

UK Police Testing Wireless Handheld Fingerprint Scanners

Phone Crime Falls in UK Capital

The UK's Metropolitan Police has reported that mobile phone crime in london has fallen significantly over the last three years. The london-based National Mobile Phone Crime Unit (NMPCU) was set up in December 2003 with Home Office funding to combat street crime and the number of mobile phones stolen during these incidents. Run by the Met, the unit tackles those involved in mobile phone criminality, focusing on the handlers, re-programmers and exporters of stolen mobile phones. more
