Motorola announced that it has acquired the privately-held developer of location-based software, Aloqa for an undisclosed amount. Aloqa has joined Motorola Mobility, which is comprised of Motorola's Mobile Devices and Home businesses. Motorola Mobility is expected to be spun off from Motorola in the first quarter of 2011. more

Skyhook Sues Google over Location Services in Motorola's Android Phones
Location services provider, Skyhook Wireless is suing Google, claiming that the search engine giant is infringing its patents. In a complaint filed with a federal court in Massachusetts, USA, the company also alleges that Google caused it to lose a valuable partnership by unfairly having Motorola include Google's competing technology in its mobile phones. more

Motorola Deploys Location Based Services for NTT DoCoMo
Motorola has announced that Japan's NTT DoCoMo will deploy its Mobile Advanced Location System (MALS) to power DoCoMo's new location based services. Motorola MALS is compliant with the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Secure User Plane Location (SUPL) 1.0 standard, allowing faster and more accurate detection of the position of DoCoMo's users, even when using base stations of overseas carriers in the roaming areas. more
