Libya to Sell Stakes in State Owned Mobile Networks

­The Libyan government has announced plans to sell small stakes in the country's two mobile phone networks as part of a wider plan to sell off state owned corporations. Etisalat Bids for Libya's 3rd Mobile License

In a brief statement to the Abu Dhabi stock exchange, Etisalat has confirmed that it has submitted a bid for Libya's third mobile phone license. According to Reuters, the company would plan an investment of at least US$500 million if it won the license.  more

ZTE Wins Libyan Network Contract

Libyan mobile network operator, libyana has awarded a EUR41 million (US$58.4 million) network expansion contract to China's ZTE, the company announced in a statement last week. The company currently covers just over 72% of the population.  more

Libya Getting a 3G Network

China's ZTE says that it is helping libyana, the largest mobile operator in Libya to construct a WCDMA/HSDPA network. Upon completion, the network will have a capacity of 1 million lines and covers most of the country's population over 14 main cities, including the capital Tripoli. more
