Fitch Revises Outlook to Negative on Samsung & LG Electronics

Fitch Ratings says that it has revised its rating Outlook on Samsung Electronics (SEC) and LG Electronics (LGE) to Negative from Stable. At the same time, Hynix Semiconductor's (Hynix) Long-term foreign currency (FC) IDR and senior unsecured debt ratings, which are currently at 'B+', remain on Rating Watch Negative (RWN).  more

LG Reports Record Quarterly Loss - Sees Tough Year Ahead

South Korea's LG Electronics has swung to a record fourth quarter loss on slowing handset and flat-screen sales - and warned that it sees little upside for the rest of 2009. The firm reported a net loss of KRW 671 billion (US$493 million) on sales of KRW 6.59 trillion (US$4.84 billion).  more

T-Mobile Runs Live Tests of Mobile LTE Network in Germany

T-Mobile has successfully trialed a LTE based network in Germany in a live environment. In the trial, data was transmitted to and from a vehicle driving in Bonn between Deutsche Telekom's headquarters on the left side of the river Rhine and the T-Mobile headquarters on the riverÃ's right bank. On the four-kilometer test track data transmission went smoothly without interruptions and without loss of quality even across different cells - one of the most important prerequisites for qualification as a mobile communications network of the future.  more

Nortel and LG Demo LTE Handover at 100 km per hour

Nortel and LG Electronics have completed what they say is the world's first mobile LTE live air handover. Engineers at Nortel's Research and Development Centre of Excellence in Ottawa showed streaming HD video on an early LTE mobile device from LG Electronics while driving at speeds of 100 kms per hour and moving between coverage sites.  more

LTE Group Defines Interoperability Testing Standards

The LTE SAE Trial Initiative (LSTI), a global group of LTE equipment vendors and operators, has outlined plans for cross-vendor device to network interoperability testing of LTE. In an initial step, a common set of features for LTE Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) and Time Division Duplex (TDD) equipment is being defined as the basis for early interoperability tests between devices and infrastructure. This feature set definition is expected to be complete by the end of 2008 and will be followed by interoperability tests across infrastructure equipment, mobile devices, and chipsets from the various LSTI member companies.  more

Alca-Lu and LG Complete Long Term Evolution (LTE) Test Calls

Alcatel-Lucent and LG Electronics say that they have completed Long Term Evolution (LTE) test calls using Alcatel-Lucent's LTE solution and mobile device prototypes from LG.
