Q3 Mobile Handset Shipments in China up 8.1% on Year Ago

EJL Wireless Research  has published a report which says that shipments of handsets into China for the third quarter increased by 8.1% when compared to the third quarter of 2007. Mobile handset vendors analyzed include: Huawei, K-Touch, lenovo, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, and ZTE.  more

Open Source OS Assists Chinese Development of the Smart Phone Market

A report from Chinese research firm, CCID Consulting shows that the sales volume of smart phones in China's market in the first half of 2008 reached 15.671 million sets, up 32.1% over H1 2007, and the sales revenue reached 37.74 billion Yuan, up 25.7% over H1 2007.  more

Red Bend Signs FOTA Deal With China's Lenovo Mobile

Over-the-air software developer, Red Bend Software has signed a licensing agreement with China's lenovo Mobile to integrate its vCurrent Mobile software for firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updating and vDirect Mobile software for device management in lenovo MobileÃ's i399 phone, a GSM phone which is sold by China Mobile. lenovo Mobile is the top domestic brand handset manufacturer in China.  more

China's TD-SCDMA Expansion Delayed Until After Olympics

TD-SCDMA Surfaces into Commercial Daylight

Though ChinaÃ's government has yet to issue its 3G licenses and telecom restructuring is still ongoing, TD-SCDMA is now live, reports ABI Research analyst Hwai Lin Khor. "After many years of research and development, and many trials conducted by China Mobile, the 3G service has made a ‘softÃ' launch in eight cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangzhou and Shenzhen starting April 2008 on a trial basis."  more

China Mobile Planning 3,000 3G Base Station for Shanghai

China Mobile's Shanghai branch has said it will install over 3,000 TD-SCDMA base stations in Shanghai this year as it prepares to launch 3G services commercially. The company is already running trials of the network and handsets, although there have been complaints about coverage from the network and battery life in the handsets.  more

Nearly 16% of all Mobile Phones are Sold in China

A new report from Reportlinker has noted that the global sale of mobile phone amounted to 515 million sets in the first half of 2007, of which 81million sets (taking 15.7%) were distributed in Mainland China.  more

China Mobile Planning to buy 2 Million 3G Handsets

China Mobile is reported to be planning a TD-SCDMA handset tender later this year which could be worth between US$500 and US$780 million. China Mobile, which has already spent a similar sum to purchase 3G network equipment for 10 cities, will buy two million TD-SCDMA phones in October, according to Chen Haofei, the secretary general of TD-SCDMA Forum. The handsets are expected to retail for between US$260 and US$390 per unit. more

China's Mobile Phone Sales Volume Neared 21 Million In Q4 2005

Analysys International reports that China's mobile phone market grew steadily and sales volume reached 20.86 million units in the fourth quarter of 2005, increasing 7.6% quarter on quarter, in its recently released report China Mobile Phone Market Quarterly Tracker Q4 2005. According to the report, in the fourth quarter of 2005, China's GSM handsets market maintained an upward trend, with the sales volume reaching 19.51 million units. more
