Malaysian Operator Launches HSPA Enabled 3G Network

Malaysian mobile network operator, DiGi Telecommunications has launched its HSPA network - covering Damansara, Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Sunway and Bangsar. Customers in other key areas of Klang Valley will be able to experience DiGi's broadband service within weeks. DiGi plans to cover more than 1,000 zones at a minimum of 5 market centres by the end of this year.  more

Huawei Wins Malaysian WiMAX Contract

Malaysian WiMAX license holder, Asiaspace has awarded Huawei Technologies with a contract to supply the company with an end-to-end WiMAX solution. Asiaspace, known for its capability of building telecommunication towers for mobile operators throughout Malaysia aims to provide 40 per cent of the Malaysian population with Internet broadband access through its WiMAX service by 2010.  more

Kuala Lumpur gets iBurst HC-SDMA Wireless Network

Kyocera Corporation announced today that iZZinet (formerly known as MoBif Wireless Broadband) has become the first iBurst operator in the ASEAN region, installing a network of 50 iBurst base stations in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, and the surrounding metropolitan Klang Valley.  more

Maxis Plans 3G Coverage Expansion

Malaysia's Maxis expects to spend between RM400 and RM600 (US$110-165) million on capital expenditure for its 3G network next year. Chief executive officer, Datuk Jamaludin Ibrahim said that the spend would be used primarily for expanding 3G network coverage. He was speaking at a public ceremony at the Multimedia University and University Malaya. more

Since the launch of its 3G services on 1 July, Maxis has significantly increased its 3G coverage in the Klang Valley and will soon offer 3G services in Johor Bahru. Siemens Wins Malaysian 3G Contract

Malaysia's Maxis Communications has signed a three-year framework partnership with Siemens Communications to deliver its 3G/W-CDMA radio equipment in the Klang Valley and northern region. Aside from full turnkey supply and installation of the Siemens equipment, the contract also covers its maintenance and comprehensive services, and upgrades to HSDPA early next year. more

Malaysia's Maxis has launched a consumer service for its 3G network, extending it to both contract and PrePay 3G phones. Te company has operated a 3G network via data cards since April this year. With Maxis3G, customers retain their existing numbers and rate plans, and only need to get a Maxis 3G-customised phone and a 3G SIM card to start enjoying 3G services. more
