Shyam Telelink Connects 100,000th CDMA Subscriber

Indian phone network, Shyam Telelink, a subsidiary of Russia's Sistema, says that it has connected the one hundred thousandth subscriber to its CDMA 800 MHz mobile network in the state of Rajasthan since its launch on September 30, 2008. The growth of Shyam Telelink's subscriber base has exceeded its business plan by 1.5 times.  more

India GSM Networks Record Additions in November

India's COAI has reported a subscriber growth of 2.32 million during the month of November'05, which is once again a record high, being 10% higher than the previous month. This is now the highest monthly subscriber additions (2.32 million) recorded by the GSM industry since inception of service. The cumulative All India GSM subscriber base has now grown to 55.31 million in November 2005, up from 52.98 million in October 2005, a growth of 4.4% for the month under review. more

Bharti takes control of mobile subsidiary - updates billing software

Telia has sold its 26% stake in India's GSM network, Bharti Mobile (trading as AirTel) for US$58.4 million. The sale, which has been widely expected was to Bharti Mobile's majority shareholder, Bharti Tele-Ventures. Telia said that the sale is part of it's efforts to streamline operations and prioritise markets in the Nordic countries and the Baltic states. Bharti Tele-Ventures now holds the entire stock in Bharti Mobile. more

Indian market starts to consolidate

Two Indian cellular networks, Hutchison and BPL are rumoured to be discussing a merger of their two companies. BPL, which provides services in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and kerala regions is estimated to be worth as much as US$1 billion. BPL was in talks to merge with another Indian network, Bharti in a stock only deal, but the Hutchison package is believed to include a cash element. The two companies together will control about 30% of the Indian market" more
