54 Million Private Branded Handsets Will Be Shipped in 2006

J-Phone cuts the cost of its 3G rollout
The Wall Street Journal has reported that Japan's J-Phone has ordered a series of micro base stations that will be added to their existing infrastructure to expand its 3G rollout. J-Phone President Darryl Green told the newspaper that these micro base stations will cost just a tenth of the cost of a full scale 3G base station. The new kit has been ordered from Nokia and NEC, and there are reportedly plans to order equipment from Ericsson in the future. more
