RCom Asked to Clarify Kashmir Network Launch Details

Pakistan Confirms Formal Mobile Licenses in Two Regional Zones

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) says that it has deposited Rs.1.2 billion (US$20 million) with the Azad Jammu & kashmir (AJ&K) Council Secretariat and Northern Areas (NAs) Secretariat on account of Initial License Fee (ILF) collected from 4 mobile operators to whom licenses were issued for AJ&K and NAs.  more

Telecoms Exchange Fire Disrupts Telecoms Services in Northern India

A fire at a telephone exchange operated by India's Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Chandigarh over the weekend has significantly disrupted telecoms across the region and disconnected subscribers across Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. GSM Licenses Awarded in Pakistan Kashmir

As reported here in April, Pakistan's Telecoms Authority has now formally awarded GSM coverage licenses for its Northern provinces of Azad Jammu and kashmir. The Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and kashmir Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan has said that the development of telecommunication infrastructure in the AJ&K areas through increased investment by the newly licensed operators would lay the foundations for a modern and state of the art telecom network in the area which will have positive impact on the standard of living of the people of AJ&K and NA. more

Siemens Wins Additional GSM-R Contracts in India

Train engineers, conductors and stationmasters in the Indian regions of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Jammu an kashmir will in future be able to communicate with one another over a new mobile system. Indian Railway is gradually migrating its rail communication to GSM-Railway (GSM-R) with the aim of increasing the safety, security and reliability of rail traffic. Indian Railway has awarded two additional contracts to the Siemens Communications group to supply the new technology. Siemens will thus equip 2,200 kilometers of the rail network with GSM-R technology. more

Bharti gains national network license capacity

India's Bharti Tele-Ventures (BTVL) has signed and received Unified Access license to provide GSM services in 5 circles including Uttar Pradesh (East), West Bengal & Andaman Nicobar, Orissa, Bihar and Jammu & kashmir. The license has been granted to Bharti Cellular Limited (BCL), the cellular arm and subsidiary of BTVL. more
