Orange Gets 3G License in Jordan

jordan's telecoms regulator, the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) says that it has awarded a 3G license to Orange jordan for a price of JD50 million (US$70.5 million). The license is valid for 15 years.  more

Zain Takes Majority Stake in Palestinian Mobile Operator

Zain has announced that it is to take a majority stake in the Palestinian Telecommunications Company (Paltel) in a share swap deal. Zain will transfer its ownership of its jordan subsidiary to Paltel in exchange for taking an equity shareholding of 56.53% in the enlarged company.  more

Jordan Gains its 3rd WiMAX Network Operator

A third WiMAX network has been launched in the Middle-Eastern country of jordan, based on network infrastructure supplied by Motorola. Initially, coverage is being offered in the capital, along with the major cities of Irbid and Zaraq. The network, being operated by Mada Communications will be expanded nationwide eventually.  more

Opera, which provides a Java based mobile browser has reported that in January 2009, consumer Opera Mini use jumped 12.1% over the previous month to 20 million unique users. Monthly page views increased even more, jumping 18% to 7.6 billion Web pages in the same time period. Data transfers were also up 18% from December 2008 as Opera Mini generated more than 122 million MB of data for operators worldwide.  more
