Palestinian Phone Network Affected by Shelling of Telecoms Exchange

Paltel, the mobile phone network covering the Palestinian Territories has reported that its network has been badly disrupted by the ongoing military action by Israel in the Gaza Strip. Paltel said that the interruption was a direct result of the continuous shelling on Jabalia's exchange which destroyed jawwal's mobile towers.  more

Wataniya Palestine Granted Operating Radio Spectrum

Following a series of delays, it has been reported that Wataniya Palestine has been granted its operational radio spectrum so that it can launch its GSM network in the Palestinian Territories. Qatar based newspaper, The Peninsula reported that spectrum agreement reached with the Palestinian Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology (MTIT) will be for a staged release of radio frequencies over the next several months.  more

Wataniya's Palestinian GSM Network Launch Delayed

Kuwait's Wataniya, which was supposed to have been granted radio spectrum to launch a second GSM network in the Palestinian Authority has not yet had the spectrum released to it.  Palestinians say that the delay is being caused by Israel which is holding onto the spectrum citing security concerns.  more

Palestine Operator Orders Electronic PrePay Top-Ups Platform

Irish mobile payment provider, Macalla has won a contract from Palestine based GSM operator, jawwal to enable electronic top-up services to its subscribers. jawwal's new e-TopUp services will be provided on channels including SMS, web, IVR and POS and be available in their shops throughout the territory. Subscribers will be able to top-up their mobile phones directly and via jawwal agents, and can pay using cash or credit.  more
