Qualcomm Ordered to Amend Japanese Patent Licenses
Qualcomm has confirmed that the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) has issued an order relating to its license agreements with Japanese manufacturers. The order alleges that Qualcomm forced Japanese licensees to accept cross-license provisions without compensation, and to accept a provision under which the Japanese licensees agreed not to assert their essential patents against other licensees that had agreed to a similar provision. more

Qualcomm has announced that it has received a copy of the draft order from the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) that has asserted that Qualcomm's Japanese licensees were forced to cross license patents to Qualcomm on a royalty-free basis and were forced to accept a provision under which licensees agreed not to assert their essential patents against each other. more
Qualcomm has confirmed that the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) has notified its Japanese subsidiary, Qualcomm Japan, that the JFTC may investigate Qualcomm's licensing and chip business practices in Japan. The JFTC did not reveal the timing for any investigation or identity of any complainant. more
