Hondutel launches 2nd PHS operation, eyes third for Dec
The company expects to sell 100,000 lines using the new service, named Sulatel, in its first year of operations, similar to the goal of its first PHS operation called Tegucel launched in capital Tegucigalpa in July. Hondutel plans to launch a third operation in port city La Ceiba on Honduras' northern coast in December. The company expects to have national coverage in 2008. more

The majority of the names on the list of the leading operators in Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) by customer numbers reappear on the list of the fastest growing - but not the first on the list. This is minor Mexican player iusacell, which recorded 1.7m additions to take its total to 3.9m. However, the numbers have to be treated with caution - the vast majority of this growth came from the acquisition of Unefon which closed during the quarter. Without this, the number of new connections would have been below 0.5m - not enough to take a place in the top ten, let alone first. more
