New ITU standard opens doors for unified 'smart home' network

­itu has approved a new technical standard that will usher in new era in 'smart home' networking systems and applications. Called 'G.hn', the new standard will enable service providers to deploy new offerings, including High Definition TV (HDTV) and digital Internet Protocol TV (IPTV), more cost effectively. Indonesia is to get a mobile TV network based on the DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) standard. The Indonesia electronics company PT Agis Tbk, IPTV and mobile TV systems integrator BNS and mobile TV pioneer Toshiba have announced a partnership to jointly build a broadcast-based, nationwide mobile TV network in Indonesia. more
