Radvision shipping 3G videoconferencing solution

Radvision has announced the general availability of it's viaIP gw-P20/M Gateway, which supports real time bi-directional streaming of video telephony sessions between 3G-324M enabled cell phones and PDAs and multiple IP and isdn-based videoconferencing systems using the 3G-324M standard for real-time multimedia communications over WCDMA and CDMA2000 3G networks. The gateway also enables mobile videophones to utilize additional resources on the IP network including multipoint conferencing bridges to host three or more parties in a single session, voice and video gatekeepers, and terminals. more

European railways order GSM-R infrastructure

MicroTel International says that its CXR, S.A. subsidiary located in Paris has recently received an order from CSEE-Transport, subsidiary of Ansaldo Signal, NV of Amsterdam, the Netherlands for transmission equipment that will interface the new European railways onboard GSM-R network and ground based train control systems which use wireline transmission systems. The initial order is for approximately US$200,000. more

Aircraft to get high speed data services

The satellite network, Inmarsat has announced a service that will provide passengers in the corporate jet market with data connections of 64kbits/s. Later this year this will be expanded to include a Mobile Packet Data service based on IP-protocol, and by the end of the year will be available to the commercial airline market. Inmarsat announced that Telenor Satellite Services of Norway and USA, have been authorised in all four ocean regions for Swift64 services. Initially the Swift64 compatible avionics are being provided by Honeywell/Thales, with other manufacturers expected shortly. more

Switzerland modifies dialing process

Switzerland is making modifications to its regional dialing codes. All telephone calls must now be dialled using the area code, even calls within the immediate neighbourhood. This applies to all telephone numbers in the fixed network (including isdn or fax numbers) and in the mobile network. Emergency numbers and short numbers remain in the three-digit format and will continue to be dialled without a code. more

3G videoconferencing comes closer to fulfillment

Radvision says that it is in the final stages of development of the viaIP 3G-324M Gateway that will allow video-enabled 3G wireless phones to participate in videoconferences with IP-based videoconferencing systems. The Gateway will also allow mobile videophones to utilize other resources on the IP network such as H.323 compliant multipoint conferencing bridges, gatekeepers, terminals and other gateways. The 3G-324M Gateway will be available in Q2 of this year. more

3G test call made in Russia

Siemens has conducted a test call on a trial UMTS network in Moscow being operated by the GSM network, MTS. In line with the live demonstration, the mobile terminal devices were connected amongst themselves and with isdn phones. The MTS test network currently includes a circuit switching and packet oriented switch, a controller and three UMTS base stations. The network is expected to become the central network for carrying out - together with research institutes of the Russian Ministry of Communications - tests, which will be undertaken to solve a number of technical issues, including the allocation of radio frequencies for UMTS networks. more

Catapult Communications announces new graphical tools for 3G load testing

Catapult Communications has announced system level enhancements to its DCT2000 Test System. Users are now able to create their load test sequences, perform run-time control of their load applications and generate statistical reports using graphical tools. The new tools are protocol independent and support all of the protocols and variants currently available on the DCT2000.
