Turkcell Seeks Arbitration in Iran License Dispute

Turkey's Turkcell says that it has started international arbitration procedures over difficulties it experienced in launching a new network in Iran. According to the statement released to the Istanbul Stock Exchange, Turkcell said that it had incurred significant loses on its investments after Iran granted a license to a consortium led by Turkcell in February 2004 to operate a GSM network in the country.  more

In various news sources, it has been stated that the irancell consortium, in which Turkcell is a participant, has signed a licence agreement in respect of Iranian mobile telecommunications, the licence has been granted to irancell consortium, and that Turkcell is to fulfill its financial contribution proportionate to its stake by September 4, 2005. more

Turkcell threatens to withdraw from Iranian GSM venture

Turkeys Turkcell has issued an update on the approval process of its GSM license agreement in Iran. As announced on September 23, 2004, the GSM license agreement has been signed between irancell, the company that will carry out the GSM operations in Iran, and the Iranian government, which is 51% owned by Turkcell. However, they had also announced that irancell would not become a licensed GSM operator until the license fee of US$391 million is paid. more

Turkish network cleared for Iran telecoms bid

Turkcell says that it has secured a syndicated Murabaha facility of US$100 million from a consortium arranged by the Islamic Development Bank and HSBC. The facility is to support the purchase of equipment required by Turkcell for its continuing program of upgrading and maintaining it's GSM service. more
