ipwireless has shown off UMTS450, a complete high-speed packet-based data and voice solution designed for UMTS operators with access to spectrum in the 450MHz band. The paired spectrum solution uses ipwireless's Multi Chip Rate technology to support three separate chip rates, 1.28Mcps, 2.56Mcps, and 3.84Mcps, allowing operators to get the most out of their available spectrum and expand their capacity with no additional capital expenditure once legacy analogue systems are retired. UMTS450 also supports multi-band devices that allow users to roam between the 450MHz band and the 1900/2010MHz IMT2000 TDD bands, enabling UMTS operators to deploy a common mobile broadband platform across properties. more
Next generation 3G chipset now shipping
After extensive testing by operators in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific over the last six months, ipwireless announced the commercial shipment of its latest TD-CDMA chipset, the first 3GPP chipset with full HSDPA implementation to ship in commercial devices for operators. The chipset, which first shipped in Q4 2004, takes advantage of 3GPP Release 5 functionality and the inherent advantages of TD-CDMA to deliver significantly better performance and economics for operators. more

Andrew Corporation and ipwireless have jointly developed a product enables them to combine transmission of two 3G radio technologies onto a single cell site antenna. This new duplexer allows wireless operators to deploy both UMTS Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) and UMTS Time Division Duplex (TDD) systems using a single antenna, efficiently taking full advantage of their 3G spectrum to deploy new broadband services and offload traffic from their circuit switched networks. Now commercially available, the UMTS FDD/TDD duplexer has already been proven in a number of trials across Europe, and will be used by a number of operators including the recently announced UMTS TDD deployment by Sonaecom in Portugal. more

Unpaired 3G spectrum used for fixed wireless service
Sonaecom has announced that two of its companies would partner to launch a new broadband service alternative utilizing a UMTS TDD solution from ipwireless. Clix, the leading Internet Service Provider in Portugal, has launched a market trial in Lisbon to validate the platform as a way to offer Portuguese consumers a high-speed Internet service alternative to the incumbent-controlled DSL. The solution will be launched in partnership with Sonaecom's mobile operator, Optimus, leveraging its cellular infrastructure and unpaired UMTS spectrum. more
Alcatel to use TD-CDMA for hotspots
Alcatel has set up a partnership with ipwireless, the TD-CDMA (TDD) solutions company, to develop solutions for mobile operators wishing to complement their GSM/GPRS and WCDMA service offerings with TDD broadband wireless services. This solution is particularly well adapted to deploy cost effective coverage of "Hot Zones" such as dense business areas. The ipwireless broadband solution delivers data rates of up to 3Mbps (1.5Mbps in a 5MHz channel) direct to users' laptops or PCs via a PC Card (PCMCIA). In a fully deployed network broadband coverage is as ubiquitous as today's GSM networks. more
