Upwards view: Linux is losing ground

The upwards view of netbooks starts with netbooks and looks up to laptops. It leads to two conclusions. First, the laptop market is becoming increasingly complex, with market segments catered for by a growing variety of low-cost netbooks and laptops. Second, after a strong start, Linux netbooks have now been overtaken by Windows netbooks and Linux is lagging increasingly behind in terms of sales - although Linux's performance in the netbook segment is still outstanding compared to its overall performance in the desktop market.  more

iPhone Showing High Wi-Fi Usage Rates in the USA and UK

Mobile advertising agency, AdMob has highlighted growing Wi-Fi usage in the US and the UK in its November Metrics Report. Worldwide iPhone requests grew 52 percent month over month to 359 million in November, giving the iPhone 6.3 percent of total requests. In the US the iPhone is now the top device with 9.9 percent of requests.  more

Smartphone Owners Play Games More Often than Use the Business Tools

According to Portable Devices, the most recent report from leading market research company, The NPD Group, at least half of the owners of portable devices are using their devices about the same if not more today than they were three months ago. China Mobile Seeking Cut-Down Version of Apple's iPhone

China Mobile is expected to officially launch the Apple iPhone on its network shortly - but with some of the functionality removed to comply with Chinese regulations.
