iPass Breaks into Profit in Q2
Wi-Fi roaming service provider, ipass has broken into profit for the second-quarter after recording a net income of US$1 million on revenues of US$43.7 million. This is compared to a US$3 million net loss on revenues of US$44.6 million in the prior quarter, which included restructuring charges of $3.3 million. The company also reported cash flow from operations of US$2.3 million for the second quarter of 2009, a US$1.4 million increase over the first quarter 2009. more

Wi-Fi roaming provider, ipass announced a partnership agreement with 3 Scandinavia, part of the Hutchison Whampoa 3 Group of companies, which will provide ipass customers with access to its 3G network in Sweden - including mobile data in-bundle roaming into Denmark. Under the terms of the agreement, ipass will integrate 3's HSDPA and HSUPA network into its ipass Mobile Office service, which unifies remote and mobile connectivity across more than 160 countries. more

Swedish Bus Service Offers In-Coach Wi-Fi Coverage
Sweden's Swebus Express - the dominant long-distance express bus service - has launched a Wi-Fi service in eighty of its coaches, powered by Moovera Networks. The mobile Wi-Fi hotspot deployment, which is the largest of its kind in Scandinavia, will include routes with stops throughout southern and central Sweden as well as neighboring Norway and Denmark. Swebus Express, a subsidiary of Concordia Bus Nordic, will also utilize the Moovbox to connect ticket machines on each bus to the Internet, and provide GPS-based fleet location monitoring. more

The market for in-flight broadband services is poised to grow to $936 million in 2012, according to recent research by MultiMedia Intelligence. Despite industry plight, airlines are continuing to invest in new entertainment services due to their potential for additional revenue generation. MultiMedia Intelligence (MMI) anticipates that given a projected 2H 2008 launch of revenue service (initially trials, with full launches ensuing), the in-flight broadband market will debut and generate $6.6 million worldwide in passenger revenues in 2008. more

ipass says that it has surpassed 40,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in Europe -- the largest footprint of any service provider -- and now offers broadband access in 31 European countries. Major network additions in France and the UK drove ipass past the milestone. In addition to leading Europe in overall hotspots, ipass now counts more hotspots than any other provider in France, Germany and the UK. Around the world the ipass network comprises approximately 90,000 hotspots in 70 countries. more
