Android Expected to Reach Its Peak This Year as Mobile Phone Shipments Slow

­The worldwide mobile phone market is forecast to grow slightly more than 4.0% year over year in 2012, the lowest annual growth rate since 2009, due to a sharp decline in the feature phone market and sluggish global economic conditions. According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors will ship a total of nearly 1.8 billion mobile phones this year, compared to 1.7 billion units shipped in 2011. By the end of 2016, IDC forecasts 2.3 billion mobile phones will be shipped to the channel.  more

Android and Apple Smartphones Expand Share of the Market in the First Quarter

Smartphones powered by the Android and ios mobile operating systems accounted for more than eight out of ten smartphones shipped in the first quarter of 2012 (1Q12). According to the IDC Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, the mobile operating systems held shares of 59.0% and 23.0% respectively of the 152.3 million smartphones shipped in 1Q12. Android to Command Nearly Half of Smartphone OS Market by End 2012

Android overtakes BlackBerry for first time for Mobile Web Usage

­Google's Android mobile operating system overtook RIM's BlackBerry globally for the first time on a monthly basis in February according to web analytics company, StatCounter. Its research arm StatCounter Global Stats finds that Android recorded 15.2% of the worldwide market compared to 14.5% for BlackBerry. Nokia's Symbian still leads the global market with 30.7% with Apple ios in second place with 24.6%.  more

Android Overtakes iPhone in the UK Smartphone Market

­The latest market share figures for smartphone operating systems (OS), from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, show that Android has increased its share of smartphone sales in the UK to 37.4% (up from 8.3% a year ago), while Apple's ios has seen its market share reduce to 22% in the same period. The figures have been published today for the 12 weeks ending 20th February 2011.  more

BlackBerry Overtakes Apple in US Mobile Web Stats

BlackBerry OS overtook Apple's ios for the first time in the USA in November in terms of mobile internet usage according to web analytics company, StatCounter. The company's research arm, StatCounter Global Stats finds that for the first time in the US BlackBerry OS at 34.3% overtook Apple's ios which recorded 33% in November.  more
