Android to drive doubling of smartphone market by 2016

Android Explodes in Western Europe - Becomes the Biggest Smartphone OS in 4Q10
The Western European mobile phone market grew 3.2% year-on-year to 58.7 million units in the fourth quarter of 2010, according to IDC's European Mobile Phone Tracker. Shipments of smartphones increased to 25.6 million units, 99.4% higher than in 4Q09, to represent 44% of total shipments. Feature phone shipments declined to 33.1 million units 24.8% down compared with the previous year. more

Android overtakes BlackBerry for first time for Mobile Web Usage
Google's Android mobile operating system overtook RIM's BlackBerry globally for the first time on a monthly basis in February according to web analytics company, StatCounter. Its research arm StatCounter Global Stats finds that Android recorded 15.2% of the worldwide market compared to 14.5% for BlackBerry. Nokia's Symbian still leads the global market with 30.7% with Apple ios in second place with 24.6%. more

Android Overtakes iPhone in the UK Smartphone Market
The latest market share figures for smartphone operating systems (OS), from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, show that Android has increased its share of smartphone sales in the UK to 37.4% (up from 8.3% a year ago), while Apple's ios has seen its market share reduce to 22% in the same period. The figures have been published today for the 12 weeks ending 20th February 2011. more

Google Expands Remote Printing to Android and Apple Smartphones
