ITC Starts Hearing Evidence in InterDigital Patent Claims Against Nokia

The evidentiary hearing in the United States International Trade Commission (USITC) investigation against Nokia - requested by InterDigital started today. In opening statements InterDigital reiterated its position that Nokia engaged in unfair trade practices by selling for importation, importing into the United States, and selling after importation certain 3G handsets and components that allegedly infringe four of InterDigital’s patents.  more

Tessera wins patent dispute with chipmakers

Tessera Technologies said Wednesday that it won a patent dispute over small-format semiconductor packaging products, with the International Trade Commission issuing a cease-and-desist order against rivals Motorola, Qualcomm, Freescale Semiconductor and Spansion. more

Spansion and Samsung Settle Patent Litigation Lawsuit:

Spansion, the world's largest pure-play provider of Flash memory solutions, has announced that it has settled its patent litigation lawsuits with Samsung Electronics. As part of the settlement, Samsung will pay Spansion US$70 million and Spansion and Samsung Electronics Company have exchanged rights in their patent portfolios in the form of licenses and covenants subject to a confidential settlement agreement.  more

US Patent Firms Seeks Ban on Imports of Nokia, HTC Mobile Phones

Following a complaint late last year by patent holdings firm, Saxon Innovations, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has voted to institute an investigation of certain electronic devices, including handheld wireless communications devices. The products at issue in this investigation are handheld devices such as smart phones, cellular telephones, and television remote controls.  more

Broadcom Gets Boost in GPS Patent Lawsuit

One Step Closer to an Import Ban on SiRF Technology GPS Chips

Qualcomm Loses GSM Patent Lawsuit in Germany

The German Federal Patent Court has ruled that a Qualcomm patent affecting GSM phones is invalid - and threw out a case against Nokia. The original lawsuit was filed by Qualcomm against Nokia in August 2006 , but delayed at Qualcomm's request.  more
