Smart-Jamming for Mobile Phones in US Prison

Tecore Networks says that it has deployed its Intelligent Network Access Controller (IntelliNAC) to address the growing problem of illegal cell phone use by prison inmates in an unnamed U.S. locality. While restricting the localized use of unknown cellular devices within the IntelliNAC coverage area, approved prison personnel remain able to access the commercial cellular network service within the prison grounds as well as external to the prison through their existing cellular subscriptions.  more

Alcatel-Lucent Deploys 3G Network in Reunion

ZTE Secures More than Half of China Unicom GSM VAS Tenders

China's ZTE Corp. says that it has secured more than a 55% share in China Unicom's 2008 bulk purchase of GSM value-added service [VAS] systems, according to the recently announced tender result. The China Unicom tender involves the provision of key service platforms of the GSM network that will allow operators to offer mobile services nationwide.  more

Nortel Upgrading German GSM-R Network

Alcatel-Lucent Picks up Vodafone Service Contract

Vodafone UK has signed a managed service agreement with Alcatel-Lucent to support, maintain and upgrade a range of technical platforms. Under the five year agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will carry out maintenance and operations for Vodafone UKÃ's Intelligent Network & Core Applications (INCA) platforms, as well as transition current systems to standardised Alcatel-Lucent platforms.  more

Nokia Siemens Wins Iraqi GSM Contract

Zain Iraq has signed up Nokia Siemens Networks in a US$150 million contract to increase capacity while also simplifying and modernizing its existing core network. Nokia Siemens Networks will unify the technologies and bring them under Nokia Siemens Networks portfolio, thus assuming responsibility for Zain IraqÃ's Core, Intelligent Network and Value Added Services elements of the network.  more

Alcatel-Lucent Wins 3-Year GSM Contract in Burundi

Alcatel-Lucent has been awarded a 3-years frame agreement by Africa Cellulaire (Africell) Burundi, a subsidiary of VTEL Holdings, which will start operating under its new "TEMPO" brand, for the delivery of a complete nation-wide GSM/EDGE network. Alcatel-Lucent Wins Yemen GSM Contract

Alcatel-Lucent has won a EUR20 million (US$29 million) contract with MTN for the expansion of its GSM/EDGE network in Yemen.
