Total spending on mobile messaging services by consumers will rise 15% from $65 billion in 2007 to over $88 billion by 2012, according to a new Strategy Analytics report. Smartphone Forecast: Shipments to More Than Double in 2006
Smartphones' premium prices and "supersized" form factors have historically combined with a limited demand for advanced data services to restrict them to "niche market" status. But 2006 will bring a growth spurt in the smartphone market that will see worldwide shipments more than double. Mobile Messaging in Europe to grow by 92% over 5 years
Forrester says that it predicts that total traffic from all mobile messaging types will grow by 92% over the next five years. Person-to-person short message service (SMS) will drive most of this growth, both this year and at the end of 2010. However, revenues from SMS, mobile multimedia messaging service (MMS), video messaging, instant messaging presence services (IMPS*), and mobile email will only grow by 10% - to US$27 billion by the end of 2010 - as unit prices drop. more
