Mobile Instant Messaging to Exceed 1.3 billion Users by 2016

­A new report published by Juniper Research forecasts that the number of mobile IM (Instant Messaging) users will exceed 1.3 billion by 2016. This tripling of users from last year will be driven by the arrival of new services, such as Apple's iMessage, and continued growth of existing services, such as AOL's AIM, Blackberry Messenger, Microsoft's Windows Live, Skype and Yahoo! Claro Launches Hosted Mobile Instant Messenger Service

­Claro Peru has become the fifth subsidiary of the América Móvil group to launch Claro Messenger, a mobile IM service powered by Synchronica's hosted instant messaging and presence service (IMPS) platform. 'Sleep talking' PCs save energy and money

Personal computers may soon save large amounts of energy by "sleep talking." Computer scientists at UC San Diego and Microsoft Research have created a plug-and-play hardware prototype for personal computers that induces a new energy saving state known as "sleep talking." Normally PCs can be in either awake mode - where they consume power even if they are not being used, or in a low power sleep mode - where they save substantial power but are essentially inactive and unresponsive to network traffic. The new sleep talking state provides much of the energy savings of sleep mode and some of the network-and-Internet-connected convenience of awake mode.  more
