BSNL Seeks $207 Million from Renting Out Tower Assets
India's Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) says that it expects to earn at least Rs. 1,000 crore (US$207 million) in the first year of opening its network up for infrastructure sharing. However, some of the income will be offset by higher costs as the operator seeks to rent capacity on towers belonging to other operators as it expands its network in rural areas. more

Reliance Inks Indian Network Sharing Deal with Etisalat
India's Reliance Communications has agreed to a passive infrastructure sharing deal with greenfield operator, Etisalat DB. Under the terms of the agreements, Etisalat and its local subsidiary would outsource their telecom infrastructure requirements for the 15 telecom circles, encompassing end-to-end tower and transmission infrastructure to Reliance Infratel and Reliance Communications, respectively. more

Tower Sharing Could Save $8 Billion Over 5 Years in MEA Region
Delta Partners has published a white paper about the potential of network sharing in the MEA region. The paper notes that there are currently over 200,000 mobile network towers in operation across the Middle East and Africa, in which operators invest annually between 10-20% of their revenues to rollout new sites or upgrade existing sites. Operators continue to make large investments in order to upgrade technologies and capacity as well as population coverage, especially in rural Africa. more

Active RAN Sharing Could Save Operators $60 Billion
A new study from ABI Research finds that the worldwide combined OPEX and CAPEX savings from active infrastructure sharing could amount to as much as $60 billion over the next five year period. The study finds that operators could enjoy at least 40% cost savings in addition to those available from passive site sharing. more
