Microwave equipment market hits $4.9 billion in 2008, led by Ericsson and NEC

Market research firm Infonetics Research is reporting that worldwide microwave equipment sales hit $4.9 billion in 2008, up 23% from the previous year. Telecom carriers spent $62 billion on outsourced services in 2008

Market research firm Infonetics Research is reporting that telecom carriers spent US$62 billion on outsourced services in 2008, and have plans to increase that spending. The report noted that the top revenue-generating tasks outsourced by service providers in 2008 include network maintenance, application service delivery, network build, and network planning and design.  more

Smartphone sales buck the recession

A report by Infonetics Research is forecasting an 8% drop in the total number of mobile phones sold in 2009, to 1.1 billion worldwide (down from 1.2 billion in 2008), in line with predictions from Nokia, among others. Smartphones were the best-performing segment of the mobile phones market in 2008 and the only segment to show unit and revenue growth in the second half of the year as the world economy entered recession.  more

Recession isn't holding back mobile broadband subscribers

Market research firm Infonetics Research released the fourth quarter (4Q08) edition of its Mobile Broadband Cards, Routers, Services, and Subscribers report last week. The report found that worldwide, the number of mobile broadband subscribers (including W- CDMA/HSPA and CDMA2000/EV-DO) jumped 125% in 2008 over 2007, hitting 210.5 million, and are expected to top 1 billion by 2013.  more

Market research firm Infonetics Research released the fourth quarteredition of its Mobile Infrastructure and Subscribers report and noted that the worldwide mobile network infrastructure equipment market grew 6% to US$50.8 billion in 2008 over 2007, and will continue to grow in 2009 and 2010.  more

IMS equipment market up 94% in 2008, subscribers to triple in 2009

Communications market research firm Infonetics Research says in a report that worldwide sales of IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) equipment, including HSS (home subscriber servers) and CSCF servers, nearly doubled in 2008 over 2007, up 94%. Fixed-line VoIP is remaining the primary application deployed over IMS.  more

FMC phones hit $7.6B in 2Q08; FMC network elements on target to grow 82% in 2008

Ericsson, Nokia Siemens widen RAN market lead

Communications market research firm Infonetics Research reports that worldwide sales of radio access network (RAN) equipment inched up a percent to $10.2 billion in 2Q08, after market leaders Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks each increased their worldwide revenue by 5%, reinforcing their strong #1 and #2 leadership positions (respectively).  more

Carriers name Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson and Nokia Siemens top IMS vendors

A new study by Infonetics Research that provides an in-depth view of service provider thinking and plans for IMS equipment and services, including service provider perceptions of leading IMS vendors, names Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, and Nokia Siemens as the "top IMS equipment manufacturers." According to the study, roughly 3/4 plan to offer fixed VoIP over IMS by April 2009.  more
