Indonesia Leads Southeast Asia in 3G CDMA Subscriber Growth

The CDMA Development Group (CDG) has announced that, as of Q1 2008, Indonesia had more than 16.3 million CDMA2000 subscribers -- making it the leader in Southeast Asia for 3G CDMA subscriber growth. The CDG attributes the increase in large part to the availability of ultra low-cost handsets and affordable tariffs, which are critical to technology and service expansion in emerging markets.  more

Indonesian Mobile Users to Reach 133 Million by 2010 - report

In the latest research report, ROA Group has analyzed the latest developments in the fast growing mobile market of Indonesia and provides a forecast for 2007-2010. Mobile users in Indonesia recorded 68 million at the end of 2006 and will grow to 94.7 million in 2007. The industry will post about 18% of CAGR starting in 2008, and the number of users will increase to 133 million by 2010.  more

Indosat increases its holding in Satelindo

Indonesia's indosat has completed the acquisition of 100% of Bimagraha for US$372 million. Bimagraha is a holding company whose only substantial asset is a 45% shareholding in Satelindo. The acquisition of Bimagraha gives indosat an effective controlling shareholding in Satelindo of 75%, although indosat only holds legal title to 52.5% at this time. more

SingTel invests in Indonesia

Singapore Telecom (SingTel) is buying KPN's stake in the Indonesian GSM network, Telkomsel for approximately US$601 million in cash. In addition SingTel Mobile will also settle KPN Mobile's remaining technical service obligation to Telkomsel valued at US$25 million. Telkom, the other shareholder of Telkomsel owning 77.7% has approved the transaction. The sale does not affect the revenues or EBITDA of KPN, since its stake in Telkomsel has never been consolidated in its financial statements. The expected book profit related to this disposal will be approximately US$280 million. more
