Qatar Telecom Gets Clearance to Increase Indonesian Investment
Qatar Telecom (QTel) has confirmed that it will increase its holding in Indonesia's indosat to 65% following a clarification about foreign investor rules from the Indonesian government. The authorities have agreed to allow Qtel to own up to 65 percent of indosat, while removing a previously discussed condition that indosat would transfer its fixed business into a separate company. more

Indonesian Government Permits Qtel to Increase Indosat Stake
Indonesia's government has made a fairly large change to its policy on foreign ownership of telecoms operators - and is to permit Qatar Telecom (Qtel) to increase its holding in indosat to 65 percent. Qtel recently paid US$1.8 billion for a 40.8% in the firm, and was seemingly restricted to a 49% stake by Indonesian law. more

Qatar Telecom Confirms Indosat Purchase - Doubles First Half Revenues
Qatar Telecom (Qtel) has reported that its first half group revenues jumped by 102% to QAR8.1 billion (US$2.2 billion), driven by acquisitions and continued marketing efforts. The group's EBITDA has increased 92% in the first half of 2008 compared to the same period last year, to stand at QAR 4.04 billion (US$1.1 billion). Net profit attributable to the shareholders stood at QAR 1.18 billion (US$324 million) for the first half of 2008: an increase of 33% over the same period last year. more

Qatar Telecom Buys Control of Kuwait's Wataniya
Qatar Telecom has announced that it is paying US$3.7 billion for a controlling shareholding in Kuwait based, Wataniya, which has mobile operations in seven countries in the region. Qtel will acquire 51% of the share capital of Wataniya from Kuwait Projects Company Holding KSC (KIPCO) and other related parties as well as further and additional direct investments in its Algeria and Iraq operations for a total consideration of $3.7 billion. more
