New ITU Standard Boosts 3G to Satellite Connectivity
A new ITU standard has been approved that will ensure worldwide compatibility, international roaming, and access to high-speed data services for 3G (imt-2000) mobile phone systems. Recommendation ITU-R M.1850 identifies satellite radio interface specifications for imt-2000 systems, which, by means of one or more radio links, provide access to a wide range of telecommunication services. more

WiMAX Deployments Go Global with 519 in 146 Countries
In spite of the financial downturn which has impacted telecom investments, wireless broadband Internet deployments based upon WiMAX have reached 519 in 146 countries, including 95 WiMAX networks deployed by 2G mobile operators. Of the 519 WiMAX deployments, 112 were added in 2009. The WiMAX ecosystem advanced certification activity with 86 products receiving WiMAX Forum Certified status this year. more

Qualcomm Achieves World's First HSPA+ Data Call
Qualcomm says that it has completed the world's first data call using High-Speed Packet Access Plus (HSPA+) network technology. The call achieved a data transfer rate of more than 20 Mbps in a 5 MHz channel. HSPA+ will allow operators to double the data and triple the voice capacity of their networks compared to current HSPA deployments. more

WiMAX Forum to Establish Certification Laboratory in India
The WiMAX Forum says that it plans to set up a WiMAX Forum Designated Certification Laboratory in India by 2008. This laboratory will be part of WiMAX Forum's global initiative of establishing and operating such centers in key telecom markets. more
