Survey finds smartphones transforming mobile lifestyles of college students

Once reserved for busy business executives, smartphones are now being incorporated into the mobile lifestyle of college students, says new research from Ball State University. A recent survey of about 300 college students found that 27 percent own a smartphone as compared to the national average of 19 percent for working adults.  more

The smartphone segment of the handset market is forecast to experience strong growth, increasing from just over 10% of the market in 2007, to more than 25% of the market by 2012 says ims Research. The growth in the smartphone market is being driven by a new breed of smartphones, which are decidedly more consumer friendly.
