A new study by Infonetics Research that provides an in-depth view of service provider thinking and plans for ims equipment and services, including service provider perceptions of leading ims vendors, names Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, and Nokia Siemens as the "top ims equipment manufacturers." According to the study, roughly 3/4 plan to offer fixed VoIP over ims by April 2009. more

Nortel, Nokia Siemens neck and neck in media gateway/softswitch market in 1Q08
A new report from communications market research firm Infonetics Research shows that worldwide next gen voice equipment sales totaled $985 million in 1Q08, down 12% from the previous quarter, but up 17% from a year ago. The healthy year-over-year increase indicates service providers continue to invest in VoIP equipment as part of their long term migration from circuit switched to packet telephony, says the report. more

Voice over broadband continues to be the top application driving service providers to invest in VoIP and ims networking equipment, according to Infonetics Research's latest report. Sales of service provider VoIP and ims equipment grew 19% between 2006 and 2007, to over $3.9 billion, the report shows, with all segments in the market posting growth. more

Nortel Wins $2 Billion CDMA Contract
Nortel says that it has signed an expected five-year, US$2 billion agreement with the US based CDMA operator, Verizon Wireless. Under this agreement, Verizon Wireless plans to deploy additional CDMA2000 radio base stations, switching, IP platforms, optical networking solutions and related equipment. In addition, this agreement builds on the contract announced in July 2006, whereby Nortel was selected to supply Verizon Wireless with CDMA 1xEV-DO Revision A technology. more
