NEC Wins "Super 3G" Contract in Japan

Japan's NTT DoCoMo has contracted with NEC to provide core network EPC (Evolved Packet Core) systems that support NTT DoCoMo's "Super 3G" next generation mobile phone networks. Super3G is a standard system and an advanced version of the W-CDMA-extended technologies HSDPA and HSUPA, which achieves data transmission speeds of 100Mbps or more in downlink and 50Mbps or more in uplink access.  more

W-CDMA market sees dynamic growth

The market for W-CDMA handsets is forecast to see dynamic growth in the next few years, resulting in more than 1 billion handsets being shipped between 2006 and 2012 says a new report from ims Research. According to the report, the market for WCDMA handsets will have a CAGR of 22% over the next five years, despite competition from alternative 3G technologies, such as WiMAX.  more
