Handset Market Growth Drops to 6% in 2008

The global handset market is forecast to see slowing growth for 2008, with year-on-year growth only achieving 5.7% according to the IMS Research Online Cellular Database. This is significantly lower than previous years, which enjoyed double digit growth. Shipments for new handsets are forecast to hit 1.19 billion for 2008, up from 1.12 billion in 2007.  more

2008: A Flat Market for Cellular Infrastructure

In the past ten years, the market for cellular infrastructure has experienced exceptional growth, fuelled by rollout of new GSM, and CDMA, networks in emerging countries. Could Motorola Fall Off the Mobile Map?

Which Operator will be the First to Launch Femtos in Europe?

Cameras help to drive 5-fold increase in GPS Consumer Market

Traditionally, geo-tagging has been a complicated procedure, restricting the market to hardcore enthusiasts and professional users. However, new GPS and LBS advances are enabling this market while also driving consumer growth for GPS into cameras and laptops. As analysed in a recent IMS Research report, GPS is going to be integrated in a number of portable devices, such as laptops, PMPs, cellular and digital cameras. The overall market is set to increase 5-fold by 2011, with laptops and digital cameras representing over 20% of the market.  more

Worldwide Base Stations to Pass 3 Million by Year-End

For the first time, the number of active base stations worldwide is set to pass 3 million units by the end of 2007. A new study published by IMS Research is looking, among other topics, at the worldwide installed base of base stations. This is expected to jump from just above 2.7 million in 2006 to nearly 3.1 million in 2007.  more
