IBM to Invest $100 Million in Mobile Communication Research

ibm has announced it plans to shift US$100 million investment over the next five years into developing mobile services. The three focus areas for ibm's research investment are: mobile enterprise enablement, emerging market mobility and enterprise end-user mobile experiences. Analytics, security, privacy and user interface, and navigation will be concentrated on across the Research effort.  more

Rice-led project aims to boost performance on microprocessors

The USA's Rice University has been given a US$16 million fund to develop a new set of tools that can improve the performance of virtually any application running on any microprocessor. Virgin Mobile USA Cuts 10% of its Workforce

Virgin Mobile USA has announced that it is cutting around 45 jobs - representing some 10% of its workforce, in its New Jersey and California offices. In a memo to employees, Virgin Mobile USA Chief Executive Officer Dan Schulman explained that the Company had identified continued synergies associated with the transition of IT services to ibm and the acquisition of Helio.  more
