Indonesia's Telkomsel surges forward as rivals falter

The Indonesian market has seen phenomenal growth in recent quarters, but in Q1 09 there was a definite cooling off. The previous seven quarters had seen net additions in excess of 7m, with a peak of 14.94m in Q3 08, but in Q1 09 there was a gain of just 4.47m. This was the lowest figure since Q3 06. The total market reached 144.64m with penetration at 56.8%. Although Annual growth was still impressive at 41.0%, despite falling from 48.2% in the prior twelve-month period, but on a quarterly basis the uplift of 3.2% was the lowest for more than ten years.  more

Indonesia Subscriber Growth Reports Another Record Quarter

The Indonesian market achieved a record figure for quarterly net additions in Q3 08 with an increase of 15.5m, 2m higher than the previous record, which was set in Q2 08. This took the number of connections in Indonesia to 131.64m, with annual growth of 57.1% compared to 47.9% for the prior twelve months.  more

Hutchison Reports Record 2007 Profits on Disposals

hutchison Telecom has reported a record annual profit of HK$67,776 million (US$8.7 billion) for last year, thanks largely to disposals. Turnover increased by 13.8% to HK$20,401 million (US$2.63 billion) reflecting a 57% growth in the customer base to nearly 10 million, increased usage especially in 3G and favourable foreign currency exchange rates. EBITDA increased to HK$5,253 million despite losses at start up operations in Indonesia and Vietnam, and HK$223 million non-cash charge for employee stock options, representing an EBITDA margin of 25.7%. Excluding the start up operations the EBITDA margin would have been 29.4%. more

Indonesian Networks Sign Tower Sharing Deal

Indonesia's Excelcomindo (XL) has signed a tower sharing deal with hutchison Telecoms Indonesian subsidiary, PT hutchison CP Telecommunications (HCPT). There are also unconfirmed reports coming in that the company has also signed a similar deal with the tiny local GSM operator, Lippo Telecom.  more

Hutchison CP Telecom Indonesia To Invest $600 Million On Services

JAKARTA -(Dow Jones)- Cellular phone operator PT hutchison CP Telecom Indonesia plans to invest a further $600 million from now until 2008 to develop its cellular services, the chief executive of its parent company said Thursday. more
