Arqiva named as principal cell site partner for 3G network integration project
Mobile Broadband Network Limited (MBNL), the network joint venture between T-Mobile UK and hutchison 3G UK, has selected Arqiva as its strategic partner for the provision of cell sites. Under the terms of the 10-year agreement, Arqiva will provide MBNL with 5,100 sites and Arqiva will have exclusive marketing rights for site sharing services on a further 2,500 sites. more

Hutchison Whampoa Full-Year Profits Down 43% on One-Off Items
Hong Kong based conglomerate, hutchison Whampoa has reported a 43 percent slump in 2008 to HK$17.7 billion (US$2.3 billion) - from HK$30.6 billion (US$3.9 billion). The results were however higher than the average forecasts of HK$15.5 billion, according to analysts polled by Thomson Reuters. The reduction in income was due to the removal of a one-off exceptional profit from a year earlier. Revenues grew by 13 percent to HK$348 billion (US$44.9 billion) for the full year. more

O2, Vodafone Reported to be in Network Sharing Talks
UK operators, O2 and Vodafone are reported to be in advanced talks regarding sharing their network infrastructure. Citing people close to the talks, the Financial Times that a deal "could provide them with significant savings in capital and operating spending". Vodafone's CEO, Vittorio Collao is currently seeking annual cost savings of £1bn by 2010-11 to bring the UK divisions' operating margins up to the average compared to its other country networks. more

Hutchison Telecom Confirms Spin-Off Plans for Hong Kong Holdings
Hong Kong based hutchison Telecom has reported a 16% rise in full-year revenues to HK$24 billion (US$3.1 billion) and an increase of 16.8% in EBITDA to HK$6.14 billion (US$791 million). Net income dropped precipitously to HK$1.88 billion (US$242 million) from the extraordinary HK66.8 billion a year ago - which was largely due to the one-off gain from the sale of its Indian interests to Vodafone. more

Hutchison Telecom Planning to Float Hong Kong Business
hutchison Telecommunications International (HTIL ) is reported to be preparing to spin off its Hong Kong based landline and mobile networks in a stock market floatation later this year. The company is estimated to be worth around HK$12 billion (US$1.56 billion), although only a fraction of the shares are likely to be offered. more

Vodafone, Hutchison Whampoa to Merge Australian Networks
Vodafone and hutchison Whampoa have announced plans to merge their Australian networks to form a single mobile operator. Both companies will own 50% of the joint venture - which will retain the Vodafone brand name, although they retain the rights to the "three" brand as well. To equalise the value difference between the respective businesses, Vodafone will receive a deferred payment of A$500 million (US$337 million) from the joint venture company, VHA (Vodafone hutchison Australia). more

Vodafone Raising Funds for India's 3G Auction
Vodafone Essar is reported to be currently trying to raise US$2 billion as a bridging loan to finance its bids in the country's delayed 3G and WiMAX auctions. The current reserve price for the 3G auction is US$412 million to cover all the available circles - although the auction has been delayed as the Finance Ministry is battling to double the reserve to at least US$824 million. more

Indonesia Subscriber Growth Reports Another Record Quarter
The Indonesian market achieved a record figure for quarterly net additions in Q3 08 with an increase of 15.5m, 2m higher than the previous record, which was set in Q2 08. This took the number of connections in Indonesia to 131.64m, with annual growth of 57.1% compared to 47.9% for the prior twelve months. more
