EU calls on mobile operators to continue to improve child safety policies
Half of 10 year-old, 87% of 13 year-old and 95% of 16 year-old children in the EU have a mobile phone, but half of European parents worry mobile phone use might expose their children to sexually and violently explicit images (51%) or bullying by other children (49%), according to a survey. The European Commission has now called on mobile operators to do more to keep children safe while using mobile phones by putting in place all the measures in the voluntary code of conduct, signed by 26 mobile operators in 2007. more

O2, Vodafone Reported to be in Network Sharing Talks
UK operators, O2 and Vodafone are reported to be in advanced talks regarding sharing their network infrastructure. Citing people close to the talks, the Financial Times that a deal "could provide them with significant savings in capital and operating spending". Vodafone's CEO, Vittorio Collao is currently seeking annual cost savings of £1bn by 2010-11 to bring the UK divisions' operating margins up to the average compared to its other country networks. more

UK Operators Facing Further Cuts in Mobile Termination Rates

EU Investigating Mobile Operators Over Blocking of VoIP Services
The European Union is looking at whether blocks on VoIP service by Europe's mobile phone operators might breach competition laws. The European Commission, the EU antitrust authority has sent letters to each of the mobile phone operators asking them what actions, if any, they take to affect internet based voice calls. more

T-Mobile UK to Shut-Down 5,000 Base Stations
UK mobile operator, T-Mobile is reported to be planning a shut-down of some 5,000 of its base stations as part of its network sharing deal with Hutchison 3G UK. The UK trade magazine, Mobile Today said that both networks are removing transmitters as they begin to share resources. more
