UK Operators Facing Further Cuts in Mobile Termination Rates
The UK's Competition Commission has ruled that the mobile operators should lower their landline to mobile termination rates by around 20% by 2010/11 - and to a rate which is lower than was proposed by the telecoms regulator, Ofcom. more

Setback for O2 in Hutchison 3G UK Trademark Dispute
A legal opinion from the European Court of Justice has found that the use of a competitors trademark in an advertisement is permitted under EU advertising rules. The decison comes from an appeal by UK operator O2 over the use of its "bubbles" trademark in an advert by rival operator, Hutchison 3G UK. more

Hutchison 3G reshuffles top management
Hutchison 3G UK's Managing Director, Colin Tucker has been promoted to take on an overall role in Hutchison's rollout of their 3G networks worldwide. He has been promoted to become the Deputy Chairman of 3 UK. In addition, he will also be appointed Deputy Chairman of the HWL European Telecommunication Group and to the main boards of HWL's "3" operations in Italy, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Israel and Australia. In his new capacity, Dr Tucker will serve as a principal advisor to the HWL Group Managing Director in relation to HWL's ongoing roll-out and development of "3" services worldwide. more

ADC has announced a supplier agreement with H3G Italy to provide H3G with the broadband connectivity products needed to complete its 3G network in Italy. The two-year agreement calls for H3G to use a wide array of ADC products ranging from digital signal cross connects (DSX), optical cross connects (OX), FiberGuide(R) fiber cabling systems, FL2000 wall and rack-mount panels, fiber management trays, and patch cords in addition to other connectivity gear produced by ADC. The products are approved for use throughout H3G in Italy as it builds out existing and new base stations and transmission sites. more

Intec signs global 3G billing contract with Hutchison
Intec Telecom Systems and the UK 3G license holder, Hutchison 3G have signed a contract for Intec's convergent mediation and billing products, utilizing software developed in the United States. Intec's products will be used for all of Hutchison Whampoa's UMTS license holding companies around the world, with the U.K. operation leading the process. Inter-mediatE will enable H3G to offer sophisticated network usage and content-based billing models for its leading-edge 3G services, and acquire information on advanced 3G services being provided over its network, including multimedia messaging and location-based high-bandwidth services. Colin Tucker, managing director of Hutchison 3G UK said: "This agreement clearly demonstrates the advantage Hutchison 3G has as a new entrant to the market. With no legacy systems, we can acquire the best next-generation mediation and billing products."" more
