Three UK Looking to Close Outbound Call Centers
Hutchison 3G UK is reported to be ready to terminate contracts with nearly thirty of its outbound call centers due to concerns over the quality of the customer base they were selling to. The UK trade magazine, Mobile Today reported that around half the call centres culled by 3 are due to issues around high levels of fraud, returns, 'never pays' (customers not paying their bills) and complaints to 3. Hutchison 3G UK (3 UK) has announced that it will offer unlimited Skype-to-Skype calls and instant messages at no charge to anyone with a 3 SIM card. Starting from next month, there will be no data charges or top-up fees for either contract or pay-as-you-go customers who use Skype on 3's UK network. Anyone with a 3 UK branded Skype-enabled handset will be able to buy a 3 SIM and talk as much as they want to other Skype users without ever having to pay another penny. more

Arqiva named as principal cell site partner for 3G network integration project
Mobile Broadband Network Limited (MBNL), the network joint venture between T-Mobile UK and Hutchison 3G UK, has selected Arqiva as its strategic partner for the provision of cell sites. Under the terms of the 10-year agreement, Arqiva will provide MBNL with 5,100 sites and Arqiva will have exclusive marketing rights for site sharing services on a further 2,500 sites. more

O2, Vodafone Reported to be in Network Sharing Talks
UK operators, O2 and Vodafone are reported to be in advanced talks regarding sharing their network infrastructure. Citing people close to the talks, the Financial Times that a deal "could provide them with significant savings in capital and operating spending". Vodafone's CEO, Vittorio Collao is currently seeking annual cost savings of £1bn by 2010-11 to bring the UK divisions' operating margins up to the average compared to its other country networks. more

UK Operators Facing Further Cuts in Mobile Termination Rates
The UK's Competition Commission has ruled that the mobile operators should lower their landline to mobile termination rates by around 20% by 2010/11 - and to a rate which is lower than was proposed by the telecoms regulator, Ofcom. more
