Vodafone Australia Takes Control of Retail Shops

The newly merged Australian networks, Vodafone and Hutchison, known as VHA, have paid a reported AU$80 million to bring 208 outsourced Vodafone branded retail outlets back under direct control. Vodafone Australia has historically outsourced the management of its retail outlets to four different companies, while Hutchison kept management control of its own outlets.  more

Vodafone Australia Promises No Price Rises if Merger with hutchison 3G Approved

Vodafone Australia and Hutchison 3G Australia - who are proposing a merger of their networks - have promised no price rises for at least two years following the merger. Both companies confirmed that, in the event of the merger proceeding as planned, all new and existing contract customers of Vodafone and 3 will be able to sign up to all existing Vodafone and 3 mobile voice and data plans for the next 2 years.  more

Hutchison Australia Loses Regulatory Issue

Australia's Competition and Consumer Commission says that it has decided to reject the access undertakings submitted by Hutchison Telecommunications and Hutchison 3G Australia for the supply of the Mobile Terminating Access Service (MTAS) on its CDMA and 3G network. The undertakings were originally announced back in October 2005, and a draft decision published in April. more

Quarterly Wireless ARPU Down Worldwide

Although global wireless subscribers and revenues continue to grow, mobile operators are seeing less and less revenue per user. TeleGeography's latest GlobalComms update shows wireless average revenue per user (ARPU) is declining worldwide, with only North American and Western European companies near their Q2 2004 levels. Eastern Europe was the biggest loser, down more than 27%, followed by Asia-Pacific and Africa, down 18% and 12% respectively. Global ARPU was down 13%. more
