IMS equipment market up 94% in 2008, subscribers to triple in 2009

Communications market research firm Infonetics Research says in a report that worldwide sales of IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) equipment, including HSS (home subscriber servers) and CSCF servers, nearly doubled in 2008 over 2007, up 94%. Fixed-line VoIP is remaining the primary application deployed over IMS.  more

Carriers name Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson and Nokia Siemens top IMS vendors

A new study by Infonetics Research that provides an in-depth view of service provider thinking and plans for IMS equipment and services, including service provider perceptions of leading IMS vendors, names Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, and Nokia Siemens as the "top IMS equipment manufacturers." According to the study, roughly 3/4 plan to offer fixed VoIP over IMS by April 2009.  more

Mobile Wireless Infrastructure Market Grows 13% in Q1 2008

Synergy has issued a report which shows the worldwide mobile wireless infrastructure market has climbed 13.1 percent year over year. The fastest growing market segment was Mobile Softswitch, which grew 43.8 percent year over year, followed by UMTS equipment, which increased 27.3 percent year over year.  more

Qualcomm and Huawei in 3G Cooperation

Qualcomm and huawei say that they have signed a technology transfer agreement for Node B (base station) receiver design that can benefit all UMTS systems, Release 99 and onwards. For example, the agreement covers new technology that can boost the data throughput performance of High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) networks by up to 60 percent. Technology transferred by Qualcomm under this agreement will enable huawei to deploy 3G networks in markets using any UMTS-based technologies.  more

Carrier VoIP equipment sales up 5% in Q3

Worldwide sales of service provider next gen voice equipment are up 5% in 3Q07 from 2Q07 to $956.4 million, says a new Infonetics Research report. Year-over-year, the next gen voice market is up 15%, the report shows.  more

Huawei and Qualcomm Test VoIP over HSPA within an IMS Platform

huawei Technologies says that it has successfully completed commercial technology testing for 'VoIP over HSPA' in Shanghai in conjunction with Qualcomm. They say that this is the industry's first VoIP service display with an all IP end-to-end solution that is based on a commercial chipset and IMS-based system platform. huawei put IP voice into an HSPA transfer channel, a technology called 'VoIP over HSPA'. The testing uses huawei's UMTS/HSPA and IMS systems, including all RNC (Radio Network Controller ) base and all IP transmission system and Qualcomm's MSM7200 chipset solution.  more

Huawei Selected by Warid to Deploy IMS in Uganda

huawei says that Warid Group, the fast-growing mobile service provider in South Asia and Africa, has selected it to deploy an IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) system in Uganda. huawei will construct the IMS core network and integrate it with the WiMAX access network, helping Warid to offer VoIP and IP-based multimedia services.  more
